The Small Konro is where it all started. The word Konro originates from around the 8th Century A.D and the original purpose of these little stoves was as a small room heater.
The Small Grill is a perfect size for counter top use when space is at a premium. But don't be fooled, this little grill is pwerfull and extremely efficient and remains our most poplular grill.

Made from Diatomite (the fossilized remains of plankton) and mined traditionally by hand in Suzu Japan, the blocks are joined together without the use of mortar, for a stronger, tighter and more fire resistant finish. The Konro is then baked at 1,000 degrees for six hours making them extremely durable.
Because Diatomite Grills have superior heat insulation properties, charcoal used in them starts easily and burns for longer....
It's composition and structure creates even heat distribution and very efficient cooking.

Our Konro's come with the original Japanese mesh. When it does go to look a bit tired (which it will after after a number of cooks) it can be replaced with our improved version which easily and securely slides on to the konro base plate so that it doesn't move around.
If you like the versatility of the moveable, you can of course do without the Base Plate and place directly on your Konro.
The Konro grill Yakitori Rack attachment makes cooking authentic Japanese skewers a breeze.
With this attachment we strongly recommend using the Konro adapter base plate. For the perfect Kushiyaki / Yakitori the rack slides effortlessly on to the base plate given you a stable place for your skewers.

When I first stumbled across a Dutch oven many years ago it was a revelation!
A Dutch Oven is always made of Cast Iron and has straight, flat sides.
It's original function was to be used over the stove top and then moved to the Oven. This makes it an ideal companion to our Konro Grills - Use on the top of the grill or lid on and directly on the coals; cooking sauces, soups and and stews with ease!
Of course Petromax do a little more!... A raised lip on the lid will accommodate hot coals for all round heat distribution, upturned it can be used as a small plancha, there's even a small hole for a thermometer so you can check the temperature with no fuss.
- 11.5H x 20W x 16.4D cm (2.8kg)
- 1 Litre
- Pre-Seasoned
- Ideal for Cooking Sauces, Soups and Stews

Our Black Ceramic ceramic honing rod is perfect for maintaining the edge of your Japanese knife. With a grit equivalent to a 1000 grit whetstone, it will repair the blade without wearing it away. For this reason we would not recommend a diamond steel.
Easy to use and protected by a 3-part shock absorber, the honing rod is seriously hard, with a HRC of 60-63 it is hard wearing and long lasting.
Notice the difference. Periodically 5-10 gentle swipes at a 10-15 degree angle on each side of the edge will ensure a razor sharp finish time after time...
For a finer grit (2000 grit whetstone) and more compact version please see our sintered Ruby Honing Rod - Perfect for travel
