Of course you can use any charcoal in these incredible little grills but to really fulfill their potential and do them justice the preferred fuel is the revered Binchotan Charcoal, also known as Japanese White Charcoal - Highly regarded as the best Charcoal in the World!
After months of trying to source affordable Binchotan, we have settled on a respected Sumi Bincho Briquette that comes in 10kg Boxes, and shares many of the attributes of the most expensive Binchotan. I have personally trialed the Charcoal and am fortunate enough to have the Editor of BBQ Magazine, Marcus Bawdon also use the product....

" Burns hotter for Longer..."
2 Michelin Star Chef Sat Bains
PLEASE NOTE: Binchotan comes in many forms and a variety of grades. The traditional pure 'Kishu' Binchotan from Wakayama Provence in Japan is extremely expensive and currently not available to us. We have done our very best to source a quality, responsible supplier.
"The fineness and high quality of binchō-tan are attributed to steaming at high temperatures (about 1000 degrees Celsius). Although it is often thought that binchō-tan burns hot, it actually burns at a lower temperature than ordinary charcoal but for a longer period, making it preferable by a number of chefs." Our Sumi Binchotan Briquettes
In the summer we sourced a reliable supplier in Vietnam which produces a sustainable briquette that's performance is comparable to our popular Sumi Binchotan Briquettes that we have been selling for many years to some of the best Chefs in the country.
The Vietnamese Binchotan Briquettes are a more affordable alternative and feedback has shown they are easier to light.

**NEW for 2023**
Finally, with a little more awareness of the environment we're hoping the Global Landsape is eventually shifting. We have gone to great lengths to source a truely sustainable alternative to our Binchotan Charcoal.
